Hey Caleb, thanks for this information, I can sure use it.
BTW I want to go back to Kansas now.
when i began formal study of religion and biblical analysis it was like peeling off layer after layer of dark matter, sticky and putrid that had stuck over my eyes and ears and mouth.
i learned that under the watchtower one only builds a widening gap between yourself and the world of biblical academia and scholars.
i used to think i knew a lot because i learned to quote a few scholars or lexicons as a witness.

I can only quote the Wicked Witch of the West:"All in good time, my pretty. All in good time."
Lol, it took a while to get that, I thought it was some type of revelation.
for years i've been screwed with by some very bad people, people satan would kick out of his organization because even the devil might let up on evil just to allow someone to catch their breath.
with the jwism's bad people move up while good people move down or leave the kingdom hall for good.
i was talking with two elders who said "you know if you return to the kingdom hall, jehovah will bless you and these people will stop screwing with you.
Welcome Judas
Don't let your wife drive you to poverty. You need a woman that will work "With You" not against you. You know there are billions of women out there to choose from right? And some real good ones that have the same goals as you.
And wasn't Judas in charge of the money box?

Explain the importance the book of Ecclesiasticus played in Christian history
Caleb, I've never heard of this book playing a role in Christian history. Is it the same book as Ecclesiastes?

Of course the smug witness answer is, " Jehovah chose not the high-minded ones, but the lowly ones
And yet, who did God use to write most of the N.T?
(Acts 22:3) . . .“I (Paul) am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Ci·li′cia, but educated in this city at the feet of Ga·ma′li·el, instructed according to the strictness of the ancestral Law, being zealous for God . . .

may be some of you will be shocked by this question.
however, when i was studying the bible with critical eyes i detected that paul ( or saul of tarsus) misquoted the hebrew bible in order to get false support for his arguments.
of course, this tricky kind of use of the "scriptures" was not only used by him, but others, like the author of the gospel of matthew got unsupported doctrines misquoting verses.
kaik
Roman society was very conservative. Even on the matter of sex subject.
Hey Kaik, what books can I read that has this information?
http://chrisfugue.tumblr.com/ weirdly fascinating lett take 2 (sorry for 1st error)
mrs phizzy ran into a jw lady from a neighbouring congo who has known us since we were teenagers, before we married, sometime in the pleistocene era lol.. during the conversation said lady asked if mrs phizzy was going to the r.c, to which mrs phizzy replied, "oh you haven't heard, we no longer go to meetings".. the jw lady then came back with the question in the thread title, which mrs phizzy handled well.. the point of this is though, what a god-awful, stupid, cult-minded question to ask !.
did she think we woke up one morning and thought "we don't love god anymore" ??
would that happen to anyone ?.
Closer to Fine
Jw's even take it a step further sometimes. Not only was I accused of not loving jehovah anymore, I was accused of worshipping satan.
Now that's hilarious! When it first happened to me I was real upset and angry. But the last time someone told me this, i just couldn't help it but I started cracking up uncontrollably. The kids that were with the couple starting laughing to and the couple was very upset. Finally one of the kids told the brother, "Don't you see how silly you sound saying this brother worships SAtan? I believe the couple finally realized how stupid they sounded. And the brother retracted what he said. I do wonder what happen to those kids!!

millie210
my mindset is that is that in talking to someone who believes in Jehovah (a JW) how can they possibly think that the God of the universe - omnipotent and all powerful who "does not dwell in buildings built by human hands" (Acts 17:24) only be accessed at the assembly?
I like that millie210, I'm going to use that for meetings at the Kingdom Hall
